Though many leaders oversee organizations with important missions, church leaders oversee an organization tasked with the most important mission: “Go…into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15). Because of this, church leaders should strive to be effective and visionary leaders. They should carefully reflect on and develop their knowledge and skills so they can, in turn, inspire leadership in others. (Hebrews 13:7). In this episode, Josh interviews George Shaffer, a leadership coach with 35 years of experience (20 years with AT&T and 15 years at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia). George has also served in church leadership.

We discuss three of the seven key leadership skills church leaders should develop or strengthen.

#1 Understand Your Calling and Leadership Ability (Acts 9:15)

#2 Learn Continuously (Genesis 50:20)

#3 Engage Others Constructively (John 15:12)

Great quote from George: I would rather be 80% right than 100% late.

Key question: Are the leaders of your church fully equipped to lead?
